European countries have already made certain proposals for a peace plan for Ukraine, focusing mainly on a ceasefire rather than ending the war, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press briefing in Sweden.

"Regarding the European plan, there are proposals from France and some other European countries. Some nations are really helping with this. It's not a plan to completely stop the war; it's mostly about a ceasefire," he emphasized. RBC-Ukraine informs.

Zelenskyy added that there are certain steps planned, but the plan still needs to be discussed.

"There are proposals, and I very much welcome it when strategic friends offer their assistance," he noted.

Ceasefire plan

Ukraine, together with EU countries, is working on a ceasefire plan along the current front line, consisting of 12 points. The implementation will be overseen by a peace commission led by US President Donald Trump.

Under the plan, Ukraine and Russia would fix territorial lines once Russia agrees to a ceasefire. After that, all deported children would be returned to Ukraine, and a prisoner exchange would take place.

Ukraine would also receive security guarantees, funding for reconstruction, and an accelerated path to EU membership.

In addition, anti-Russian sanctions would be gradually eased. However, around $300 billion in frozen assets would only be returned after Russia agrees to participate in Ukraine's post-war reconstruction. In the event of new aggression, the restrictions would be reinstated.

The plan also foresees negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on managing occupied territories, while neither Europe nor Ukraine would legally recognize the lands as Russian.

Trump's call to end the war

On Friday, October 17, Donald Trump met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a day after holding talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Immediately after the meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump urged Ukraine and Russia to hold positions along the current front line and noted that both sides could declare victory.
