US State Department prepares new exceptions to aid freeze for Ukraine - Politico

Senior U.S. State Department officials are drawing up a list of additional exemptions to the foreign aid freeze for Ukraine that could give the country access to some of the economic and security-related aid that is currently suspended, Politico reports, UNN writes.

If approved, these exemptions would go beyond those that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has authorized worldwide for “essential life-saving” assistance to fund programs such as mine action and drug control, according to a State Department official, two other people familiar with the planning and a document obtained by the publication.

It was unclear whether an exemption from State Department-controlled foreign military financing for Ukraine was being developed, the newspaper writes.
