"This will be an online meeting. Participation from the Ukrainian side is planned for Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal. The date is still being determined," he said.

Background

On Thursday, January 15, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that Ukraine was convening an Energy Ramstein meeting amid a difficult electricity situation caused by hostile attacks and severe cold.

He said the meeting was being convened at the instruction of Yulia Svyrydenko. At the meeting, Ukraine expects to receive additional contributions and concrete commitments from allies.

Russian strikes on the energy sector

Russia has recently intensified strikes on energy facilities in various regions of Ukraine. Against the backdrop of regular attacks and a severe energy situation, a decision was made on January 14 to introduce a state of emergency in the energy sector.

According to the Energy Ministry, the most difficult situation persists in the capital region and the Odesa region. As of January 16, emergency power outages are in effect in Kyiv. Some consumers have also been without heat supply for almost a week.

Energy workers noted that as of the morning of January 16, all apartment buildings in Kyiv are connected to the power supply, with only local outages remaining, and repair work is underway around the clock.
